About me and the yoga that I teach

My name is Tomas. I started practicing yoga in 2011, but had been on a search for the one that would suit me best for a few years. I had been to classes that looked more like esoteric sessions than yoga, where we rested more than practiced and i really was not learning much and was not getting anywhere.

All that is written about yoga above and my experience with it changed when I went to India in 2014 and got to the roots of the teachings. I started to discover the amazing system and it all started to finally make sense. That was when i thought – so, this is the real thing! Very quickly, I knew that this is something I wanted to practice on a regular basis and really start learning and go deep and practice daily.

Later, I wanted to share what I learned and benefited from with other people, so I started attending workshops and teacher trainings. I am following the old school method, learning from other teachers who are following the same, and when I can I learn directly from the oldest generation of people who teach nowadays.

I also continue with my studies in India and also had the honour to learn from the last living person who was taught directly by Krischnamacharya, who brought yoga to modern world.

Yoga has been taught in a teacher-student setting, called parampara, for ages. Yoga most likely originated in Tibet. The practice was put together from the old scriptures by Sri T. Krischnamacharya, who taught it to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois – he, on the basis of his own research, developed the system to the form we know today.

Practicing yoga helps to purify and detoxify the body, make it healthy, strong and flexible.

Every position has an alternative so everyone can practice…whether you are young, old, healthy, sick, strong, weak, flexible or not. It is suitable for a total beginner, in fact it is the best, because we start from the very basics! Whatever the reason is that you would like to try yoga – wheteher you have a sedentary job and want to help your aching back, get stronger, more flexible and improve your overall health, or you want it as a tool on your spiritual path, or even both, I will help you – we will work together to develop a practice that will suit you best. 

Yoga is based on breath and movement. The cornerstone of yoga is vinyasa – synchronization of breath and movement in a set order. It leads us into and out of every position with the movement connected to our breath. Other important aspects are breath ujjayi, bandhas and dristhi. Don’t worry you will learn it all 🙂

I teach everyone to build their own yoga practice. And really, that is all it should be about if we really want it to work – be able to practice anyywhere, anytime, practice consistently, with dedication and correctly.

You don’t have to worry about parking or getting to your yoga class in a traffic jam. Private classes with me can take place anywhere – in your home, office or a rented space wherever it suits you best and we will find a time that is best for you.
